VDC & VAC Electric School bell system question.. please help!?
I purchased a Pyramid 7000 Master Clock to play timed school bells.
I have to purchase the bells. The original system plays 24VDC bells, but they built a DC to 10 Amp AC relay that I bought additionally so it can play both 24VDC and AC bells.

I thought i understood it could play up to 110VAC but I found 2 bells on ebay that i can't figure out if they will work with the system or not.
Will they work?

ok, as I understand this the main unit (master clock) puts out 24vdc @ 0.5A (info from the website above) from its primary wires, at the end you can hook up relays so the main unit can remotely switch a load. so you can use any load through the relay up to its rated amperage (10A) without causing arching of the relay, be this voltage AC or DC. usually a relay will indicate its capacity (eg. up to 32vdc @ 5A and 230vac @ 10A) just read it. So to wire this system you need to put the output (24VDC) from the clock to the COIL of the relay, then on the LOAD end of the relay you would wire it like a normal light switch. in an 110VAC system > hot to relay input, relay output to hot on bell and return straight to bell. in a DC system + and - are used and would go straight to the bell. I have included a link to a website that has a relay wired to DC but can also easily switch AC using a similar setup. 85 & 86 would be from your clock. and 30 & 87 would be your switch (relay output).
so yes these bells will work, for AC you want models# 1005 1025 2005 2025 3005 3025 4005 4025 (depending on size & indoor or outdoor) but if you want to forgo the relay and wire straight DC you can use models# 1204 1224 2204 2224 3204 3224 4204 4224 or 1204SP 1224SP 2204SP 2224SP 3204SP 3224SP 4204SP 4224SP depending on how far cables will be run as the SP models use less amps but have higher Ohms (resistance to electron flow much like a smaller pipe in water systems) hope this helps!!!
