how can i tap a wire to my fuse for my radio wires in my car to work?
its a 89 chevy camaro and the wires to hook the stereo seem not to work...
Ok, you need a tester. I will guess that you are putting in a new stereo, did the old one work? First, check for power!!! (answer #1 said this). Get a tester, they are cheap (usually $2). They look like a screwdriver but have a light bulb inside and have a shape point with a wire coming out of the handle. Connect this wire to a good metal piece in the dash, start poking the point on each side of every fuse. You should get the light to come on, indicating power. This will confirm your tester works and it has a sufficent ground. Next, test each wire at the stereo (ignition key ON then ACC). You should have 2 power lines, one that is Switched on/off by the ignition switch, the other is continuously on (for station memory).
If you do not have this, then there's a broken wire or fuse. Go back to the fuse panel, put key ON and start testing each side of fuse, if there's power on one side, there should be power on the other side.
Once you have found power for the stereo, be sure the ground (usually black) wire is firmly connected to the chasis or test this wire by putting the tester on a power wire and the tester ground wire on the black.
